A Brief Insight to the Auto Insurance Rules and Coverage in Florida

In Florida, the owners of the vehicles are responsible for their own losses during an accident.
They are also responsible for their own medical bills. What complicates the rules further is that you are not provided with enough right, which can protect you against the opponents, during an accident.

The state's liability minimums are 10/20/10

Minimum Coverage: In Florida, the minimum coverage provided for car insurance or a liability in an accident is $10,000. $20,000 is assigned for the injuries all kinds, and $10,000 for loss or damage of a property during an accident. And if you are having assets to protect, the coverage's becomes more necessary to keep. In Florida the optional coverage like collision, comprehensive, and uninsured and underinsured motorists' bodily injury are also provided.

You are required by law to have certain minimum level of coverage:

Mandatory Coverage Minimum Requirement
Bodily Injury Liability (BI): When you are at fault in an accident, pays for accidental injury to or the death of another driver, the other driver's passengers, passengers in your car, and pedestrians.

$10,000 per person

$20,000per accident

Property Damage (PD): When you are at fault in an accident, pays for the repair or replacement of other people's cars or property. $10,000 per accident

Medical payments, PIP, and no-fault coverage
The medical payment or coverage is broadly categorized into two: Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and "no-fault" coverage. There are also some of the added expanded features for lost wages and childcare, which can help the vehicle owner to cope up with his lost finances.

Florida Auto Insurance Law

Florida being a tort state, legally does not provide financial support to all those who cause damage or injury to people during an accident. According to the Florida auto insurance law, your responsibility is to clutch on to your liability coverage's to get back your financial loses during an accident. And there can be no better option than the Auto insurance policy.

Mandatory Requirements:
Like many other states of the country, Florida has made the auto insurance mandatory, and that too on the legal grounds. As a driver you must be able to produce the insurance of your vehicle or its evidences, whenever required by the legal authorities.

In accordance with Florida auto insurance law, other acceptable documents to prove insurance include:

1. A temporary insurance card issued by the insurer.
2. A premium receipt or insurance binder issued by the motorist's insurance agent.
3. The current declarations page of a liability insurance policy.
4. The actual liability insurance policy issued for the vehicle.
5. A certificate of liability insurance policy issued by either the insurer or an authorized agent.
6. Proof of purchase of a motor vehicle with the previous 60 days and a valid insurance card issued for the motor vehicle replaced by such purchase. The proof of purchase is to be a copy of the bill of sale if the vehicle is a pre-1975 year model, or the owner's permit (yellow) copy of the application for certificate of title for a 1975 and subsequent year model vehicle.
7. A copy of the rental agreement when renting a motor vehicle, which specifies the insurance coverage.

How Auto Insurance Rates Are Determined in Florida

The insurance rate cards for the Florida drivers are decided after monitoring all the drivers of the state, and calculating and computing the rates together (which also includes the settlement, legal and administrative fees). However, the determination of the rate of every single driver depends upon his or her individual performance on the road. Apart from this, the companies also consider the factors like your age, your location, and the type of vehicle you drive to calculate the rates.

For those of you who think the process to be really complicated, you can go out to various companies and agencies for more accurate and complete information. You should keep in mind that no two insurers compute the rates similarly. Therefore, shopping for better rates is the best available alternative.
